Kevin Estre scoops a prize but no podium at Le Mans

Kevin Estre made a convincing debut in the Le Mans 24 Hours with two other rookies, Laurens Vanthoor from Belgium and Chris Cumming from Canada. Their no. 34 OAK Racing-entered Ligier JS P2-Honda shod with Dunlop tyres looked on course for a fourth-place finish in its category until a gearbox problem forced the trio to retire in the 23rd hour. However, Estre left the circuit with the Jean Rondeau Prize awarded to a young French future star on his maiden outing in the greatest endurance race in the world.

6 top-3 finishes in 6 weekends 50% victories!

The last newsletter ended with Kevin Estre’s second victory in the Pirelli World Challenge in the Barber Motorsports Park. Since then the works McLaren GT driver has achieved a top-3 finish each weekend in May. His first outing in the FIA WEC in the LM GTE Pro category ended in a stunning third place at Spa. In the Blancpain GT Series Estre came third at Brands Hatch in the sprint championship and scored a victory at Silverstone in endurance. In the Pirelli World Challenge he clinched another top-3 finish at Mosport and another victory in the streets of Detroit. The man from Lyon also took part in the tests organised by OAK Racing at Spa and Magny-Cours in the Ligier JS P2-Honda-Dunlop LM P2 that he’ll drive on his debut in the Le Mans 24 Hours next week.

More good news and another victory!

In March it was announced that Kevin Estre would take part in the Le Mans 24 Hours at the wheel of a Ligier JS P2-Honda-Dunlop entered by OAK Racing. There was more good news in mid-April in the form of a drive with the Porsche works squad, Team Manthey, in the second round of the FIA World Endurance Championship on the Spa Francorchamps circuit. While awaiting this major event the McLaren GT works driver raced at Nogaro in the Blancpain Sprint Series, at Monza in Blancpain Endurance and at Long Beach and the Barber Motorsports Park in the Pirelli World Challenge. In Alabama he scored his second win of the season after a ding-dong battle.
